How to make frames.

This may include choosing colors for the model, detailing, shading techniques, and creating supports.

Choice of plastic color

The choice of colors used in crafts must be done very carefully and responsibly. And that's why. Often, the colors needed or well suited for a figurine may belong to another type of plastic. And each plastic has its own characteristics that you need to know. If you want to use PLA, it is important to keep in mind that while shading the frame, its “rods” can melt and fall through. Therefore, the strokes need to be distributed at a distance from each other, moving along the entire shape of the frame. PLA colors are quite bright and saturated, so they will be an excellent way to achieve colorfulness and richness in your craft.

If you decide to use SBS plastic, remember that it is translucent. Due to this property, it will not be possible to apply color in layers of different colors, as with PLA - they will mix with each other and give a completely different, unnecessary shade. Therefore, for the base, try to use neutral or easily covered colors - transparent and white. SBS plastic has a “glass” effect and can also shine, which gives crafts an interesting effect.

Detailing is very important, especially when creating relatively large crafts. A lot of details give the model the effect of completeness and attracts attention, forcing others to look at themselves and find all the nuances. Sometimes, without details, a craft can look empty and rustic, but in rare cases, detailing is completely unnecessary.

The final point in creating a craft is to determine the fulcrum. Although you need to think about it when choosing a position, you need to “put the model on its feet” at the very end. It is important to understand that the slightest tilt of the craft in any direction can lead to the fact that it will not be able to stand on its own. This can also be affected by the greater number of layers of plastic, which makes the work heavier. The most optimal and win-win option is to use 3-4 points of support.

There shouldn’t be any difficulties here, the main thing is to ensure that the legs are the same length and their location. There should be a distance between them that you can measure intuitively, using an eye, based on a sketch, or by trial and error (the most effective method).

2 support points

Probably the most difficult thing is the organization of 2 support points. Suitable for bipedal characters or animals, or for animals balancing on two legs. If you decide on two points of support, make sure that your figure stands vertically so that neither side overhangs it in any direction. Make sure that the feet have the required length, proportional to the size of the figure and have an even stroke at their base without bumps or irregularities. The position of the feet and their distance from each other are also important: heels together, toes apart, think through every detail. If the figure is still not standing, look in which direction it is leaning, analyze and think about why, where you can and should add plastic to balance the figure, and where to remove it. The main thing is not to despair and remember that a craft can always be corrected, no matter what stage of execution it is at.

The second level of complexity of crafts is identical to the third. The main difference is the creation of a person with all anatomical proportions. Small or large, the craft, first of all, must have its own sketch, which must reflect all the proportions and dimensions in full size. Thus, before drawing a sketch, you need to determine the size of the future craft and mark it on a sheet of paper, making notches with a pencil where the bottom will be and where the top will be. After this, we need to draw a center line - an even vertical line passing through the center of the sheet; it will serve as a good support for us when constructing. Conventionally, the drawing can be divided into two parts, so we make a third notch in the middle of the center line (don’t forget about the top and bottom). The middle shows where half of the person’s torso goes, where his legs grow from.

Upper human body

We work with the top part of the image. By dividing the top of our line into 4 more equal divisions, we get the height of the head. The human face has an oval shape, and the skull itself is round. It is important to remind your child that a person has a neck, and that it has length and width. To determine the width of the shoulders, we need a distance equal to the height of the head. By setting the height of the head to the right of the center line, we make a notch that determines the width of the shoulder. We do the same on the left. So, we have an idea of ​​where and what size to depict the head and shoulders, the rest is the torso and arms. The length of the arms, together with the hands, reaches the middle of the thigh. The femur is located in the upper half of the leg. The elbow is half of the hand clenched into a fist. The length of the wrist is equal to the distance from the chin to the hairline.

Lower part of a person

We work with the bottom part of the image. Let's look at the bottom segment. Its top is the place where a person’s legs grow, the base of the segment is the heels. Dividing this segment in half, we put a notch with the location of the knees. Don't forget that the knees are rounded, the upper part of the leg (thigh) is slightly larger and rounder than the lower part (shin). It is important to remember that the foot also has height. The length of the foot is equal to the distance from the elbow to the beginning of the wrist.

So we have looked at the basic proportions of the human body, which are easy to remember and use even for beginners. A drawing of a person in profile will also be useful. Remember that a person’s spine is not straight, but has an S-shape. That the neck grows from the spine, and is not located in the middle of the body, it is slightly tilted forward. Male and female bodies are also different. If you are portraying a man, use rougher and sharper straight lines; if you are portraying a woman, use smoother and more rounded lines. Having drawn a sketch, you can begin to create frames for the future craft.

“A+” is the implementation of the craft in color, stroke shape and detail. We have already spoken in detail about each of these points in the description of “B+”. And here we will look at the basic proportions of a person’s face. The human face has an oval shape, slightly tapering towards the chin, like an inverted egg. Let's draw an oval. Divide the oval horizontally in half - this is the eye line. An important nuance that children almost always forget about is the hairline. Conventionally, a person’s face can be divided into 3 segments. The first segment is the distance from the chin to the base of the nose. The second segment is the distance from the nose to the eyebrows. The third is the distance from the eyebrows to the hairline. And above there is also a small distance, displaying the part of the head where the hair grows, the crown. All these 4 segments are included in our drawn oval.

We don't need to draw a detailed portrait, but we do need to correctly position the parts of the face in our craft. And based on these proportions, you can do this quite accurately.
